Hey Stranger - Week 15

SAWYER'S TYPING...      Hey stranger! we're entering the final week of school. Last week we completed a portfolio including work that we made during our time in our digital art class. All that's left to do now is the final exam. I had a really fun time in this class and while I'm looking forward to the summer I'm a little sad for it to end. This class has really opened me up to multiple different forms of media and art and I'm excited to explore them more and utilize them in the future. It has truly been a pleasure to take this class. This post is going to be pretty short as there's not much else to mention. This week's assignment was pretty short and the only thing left is the final exam which I think I'm pretty prepared for. I can't wait to take more art classes in the future and I hope they're a good experience like this one was. I can't thank my professor enough for the positive feedback I was given as well as the suggestions that o...

Hey Stranger - Week 12

SAWYER'S TYPING...      Hey stranger! This week we were tasked with creating an animation. I already had some big inspiration from one of my favorite creators, Froggy ( Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/froggy Twitter: https://x.com/frogcap Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/froggypixels/ ). Since I started watching his content I've been really interested in pixel art and I figured with this assignment it would be a great place to start. I took inspiration from some of his simpler character designs and then elements from his most recent art commission. With what little knowledge I have when it comes to pixel art and animation I think it turned out pretty okay. I'm excited to try it again at some point. I'll add my finished work and the images I used as inspiration because I think Froggy is a talented artist and deserves the credit. SAWYER Logging off...

Hey Stranger - Week 10

SAWYER'S TYPING...      Hey stranger! it's been a minute, it's a big jump going from week 7 to week 10. Life has been incredibly busy, between trips to the hospital (nothing serious I promise) and having to start two new classes, it's been kinda crazy. That being said, this week I'm getting back on top of things, and hopefully, within this next week, I'll be completely back on track with all my schoolwork.     This week we were tasked with creating a photobook, having been away from school besides quickly reviewing things I was a little lost. I was able to figure it out eventually and I think I made a pretty cohesive photobook. My subject was on the trip I took to Massachusetts last year. I chose it because I knew I had a handful of photos and some really fond memories and information I could share. It's always nice getting to talk about the things I've done or the places I did especially if they're important to me. Unfortunately, this post...

Hey Stranger - Week 7

SAWYER'S TYPING...     This week I spent my time working on a 'portal assignment'. It took me a while to think of a concept that I felt happy with that I could also execute. I started with the idea of something uncanny and unsettling into something more whimsical. I struggled to find pictures that really captured what I was thinking about. Eventually, I decided to go with something more normal, a convenience store. I found one that still had a slightly uncanny feeling and I used underwater pictures as my more "whimsical" side. The portals I chose, which were just a picture of a mirror that had lights that seemed to continuously disappear into itself, were a little more basic than what I wanted. I intended to make the tops of the fidgets look like a screen with words displayed, but I couldn't figure out what effects, fonts, colors, shading, etc would make that vision come to life. I ended up with something more simplified but I think it still held my core ide...

Hey Stranger - Week 5

SAWYER'S TYPING...      It's been a minute since I updated this blog. I missed last week's blog post because of some family things but this week I'm back and feeling a lot more motivated when it comes to my work and schooling. This week we mainly focused on photography. We dived into the different styles and concepts in photography, such as fine art and documentary photography. I've taken a photography class in the past and absolutely loved it. I continue to use what I learned in that class till this day whether I'm taking photos with my DSLR camera or with my phone. It was really nice to go through and learn more about the stylized side of photography rather than the technical side. Some of my favorite photos to take are nature photos or candid photos of my friends or events that I've been to.      This week's assignment was a video portfolio essentially. We had to select a photo for 8 different photography categories. Fine art portraiture, conceptu...

Hey Stranger - Week 3

SAWYER'S TYPING... This week we went over the elements and principles of design. Having taken multiple art classes in the past, I'm pretty familiar with them. Though, It was nice to go over everything again and to have a refresher. The project for this week was another video done in Adobe Express. This one was more about editing photos as well as continuing to work on creating video presentations. I chose to edit pictures of my snake. I thought I'd keep it on theme with the previous project and who knows, perhaps Sev will be a recurring guest in my projects. I've been really enjoying this art class so far, it's nice to have projects that are interactive. Most of the classes I've taken have usually been centered around discussion posts or essays. Which is fine and I usually manage to get them done even if I find them to be a little difficult. Having a class that has seemingly weekly interactive assignments where I get to create something, even if it's just ...

Hey Stranger - Week 2

SAWYER'S TYPING... This week we mostly learned about copyright laws as well as fair use laws. As someone who struggles with coming up with original concepts and ideas when it comes to most forms of art, I found this week's lessons to be pretty valuable. With artistic concepts, ideas, and inspiration I typically turn to social media or other platforms to find things to create from or to take inspiration from. I've never claimed that anything I've made that has been a direct inspiration from others to be my own but I feel like I understand the concept of fair use and transformative work a bit more. I also understand the value of credit when it comes to inspiration especially if I were to be posting the things I make online or in other forms. I also think that taking inspiration or creating a "copy" of others' work can directly benefit a learning artist. The best way to learn, in my opinion, is to copy from people you already admire. learning different tech...
