Hey Stranger - Week 5
SAWYER'S TYPING...
It's been a minute since I updated this blog. I missed last week's blog post because of some family things but this week I'm back and feeling a lot more motivated when it comes to my work and schooling. This week we mainly focused on photography. We dived into the different styles and concepts in photography, such as fine art and documentary photography. I've taken a photography class in the past and absolutely loved it. I continue to use what I learned in that class till this day whether I'm taking photos with my DSLR camera or with my phone. It was really nice to go through and learn more about the stylized side of photography rather than the technical side. Some of my favorite photos to take are nature photos or candid photos of my friends or events that I've been to.
This week's assignment was a video portfolio essentially. We had to select a photo for 8 different photography categories. Fine art portraiture, conceptual, nature, landscape, still life, street, architectural, and product. I decided to add a few more pictures that I really enjoyed at the end of the video as photography is something I genuinely love to do. The second half of this unit focused on photographers and their unique style of art. Finding out about new artists is something I really enjoy, it makes me motivated to try new things, to take inspiration from. I've found some of my favorite artists from previous art classes such as Mark Rothko and Monet. I have a funny theory about Monet's artistic style, it's most likely not true but it usually gets a chuckle from those who know of Monet's work. As a slightly visually impaired person, I believe Monet might have been sort of blind and he was genuinely just painting what he saw. Blurry and textured landscapes are typically what I see when I don't wear glasses or contacts, so the thought popped into my head one day while I was studying his work.
