Hey Stranger - Week 1

 SAWYER'S TYPING...

This blog was made as a college project and will be updated weekly per the assignment rules. I've had Tumblr blogs in the past so I'm no stranger to this format and I quite enjoy blogging. It's a digital journal for me so I'm actually really excited for this ongoing assignment.

Since this is the first week there's not a lot to comment on besides the general digital art knowledge that was displayed. Fluxus was one of the first things that was discussed this week and I found it to be one of the more interesting topics. seeing it described as an art movement based on creative ideas, performances, and projects that moved away from the standard tradition of art was incredibly interesting.

The Whitney Brothers was another interesting subject. I had never really thought of the idea that digital art existed before digital media and electronics became common among people. so it was very intriguing to see a digital art video that was created before the early to mid 2000s. it was also interesting to see the difference in styles between John and James' videos. John's was clear and sleek for its time whereas James' was distorted and felt more experimental. personally, I found James' video 'Yantra' to be the more interesting one of the two, it had me far more captivated than John's video and I liked how eccentric it was.

lastly, for this week's post, I found the idea of digital art preservation to be really interesting. the thought of how many early forms of art in media have been essentially lost if not having been documented really intrigued me. it made me think about how performance art and other non-traditional works of art have been lost to time.
